Books

Libraries are Creepy

Since I travel a lot for work, I absolutely love my Kindle. I can carry hundreds of books in my tote bag. I feel like Mary Poppins!

I generally read one book at a time, but sometimes, especially with business or self-enrichment books, I may have two or three going at once. I will occasionally read on my iPad, but I do find it is easier on my eyes to read on the Kindle.

Here is what I am reading now…

I Was Blind But Now I See: Time to Be Happy, by James Altucher

Instant MBA: Think, perform and earn like a top business-school graduate (52 Brilliant Ideas), by Nicholas Bate

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, by David Allen

And here are a few of my recent favorites:

Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

In this book, the author gives a very unique perspective on a topic that has been covered in literally hundreds, probably thousands, of books and articles.  By looking at Lincoln’s character and leadership skills through the people with whom he chose to associate, you get a different view of this very significant figure in American history.

In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin

Excellent historic account with a novel perspective.

Colossus: Hoover Dam and the Making of the American Century

Did you know that even 80+ years after the completion of construction on the dam, the area surrounding Lake Mead still experiences small tremors from the weight of all the water behind the dam?  I’ve been over the dam a number of times and its grandeur never fails to captivate me.  This book is definitely on my list to read a second time.

Known and Unknown: A Memoir

No matter what your political leanings, Donald Rumsfeld’s memoir is a fascinating, behind-the-scenes account from a man who spent a good part of his adult life serving in the public sector.  I read the Kindle version, which is available, the paperback is due out shortly.

And of course, Dickens. A Tale of Two Cities  No need to even attempt to critique this classic.  You can actually find a lot of free classics for Kindle on the Amazon site. Take a look.
